HubSpot audit: What's included and what's its value?

A good HubSpot audit consists of six main blocks: data model and properties, lifecycle and pipelines, automations and workflows, marketing assets, integrations, and dashboards/reporting. Expect a lead time of 2-4 weeks and an investment of €2,500-€7,500 for an SME environment. The final report must contain concrete findings, prioritization, and a redesign plan — not just "concerns" or vague recommendations.

The 6 components of a complete audit

  • 1. Data model & properties. All contact, deal, company, and custom object properties inventoried. Which are actively used? Which are outdated? Which are missing for your goals?
  • 2. Lifecycle & pipelines. How does a contact move from Subscriber to Customer? What triggers each phase? Are there gaps or inconsistencies? What do your deal pipelines look like?
  • 3. Workflows & automation. Inventory of all active workflows, their triggers, actions, and whether they still add value. Identification of conflicting or redundant workflows.
  • 4. Marketing assets. Email templates, landing pages, forms, CTAs. Which convert, which have been unused for years, which are missing?
  • 5. Integrations. Which external systems are linked, how stable, who manages them, which API keys are in use? Documentation and vulnerabilities.
  • 6. Dashboards & reporting. Which metrics are reported, to whom, how often, and are the numbers consistent? Compare with what management actually wants to know.

What the final report should contain

A valuable audit report always contains these elements:

  • Findings per component — concrete, with numbers and examples ("47 unused custom properties, including X, Y, Z").
  • Risk classification — what is a quick win, what is structural work, what is a security risk?
  • Prioritization — top 5 things to address in the next 30 days.
  • Redesign roadmap — phases, scope, estimated hours/costs.
  • Benchmarks where possible — how your KPIs perform compared to similar companies (in terms of revenue, industry).

A report that merely lists problems without prioritization or a plan is not an audit — it's a complaint.

How to choose an audit agency

Ask at least three things before you sign:

  • An anonymized sample report. Good agencies have one.
  • HubSpot Solutions Partner status. Platinum or Diamond signals a higher level, but Silver or Gold can also be perfectly fine if they have the right senior consultants.
  • Who does the work? Ask for the name and CV of the consultant performing your audit. Not the sales representative.

An audit by a junior consultant is worth at most €1,500; by a senior with 5+ years of HubSpot experience, it's in the €4,000-€7,500 range. That difference is reflected in the depth of the report.

Common mistakes

  • Auditing without a question. Start with "what do we want to achieve as an organization in the next 12 months?" — not with "audit everything".
  • Audit performed by an internal employee who built everything themselves. Bias makes the report worthless. External or fresh eyes are crucial.
  • Performing an audit but never executing it. The report in a drawer = €5,000 for nothing. Agree on the execution phase beforehand.
  • Going too deep into technical details. An audit should be readable for your MT, not just for RevOps engineers.
  • No comparison with benchmarks. "We have 200 properties" — is that a lot? An audit without context is difficult to evaluate.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a HubSpot audit take?

A light audit (focus on one component like workflows or properties): 1-2 weeks. A complete audit: 2-4 weeks including stakeholder interviews, data analysis, and reporting.

What does an audit with a Platinum partner cost?

In 2026 in the Netherlands: €4,000 - €9,000 for a complete SME audit. With Diamond partners (such as SmartBug, Six & Flow), it goes up to €8,000 - €15,000.

What is a good alternative to an external audit?

HubSpot itself offers a Health Check via your Customer Success Manager (free with Pro and higher). It covers less deeply than an external audit but provides an initial signal.

Do I need to free up an internal resource during the audit?

Yes, expect 8-16 hours of input from an internal stakeholder (RevOps, senior marketer): portal access, context for specific workflows, interview hours. Without this input, the report will be superficial.

What do I do immediately after the audit?

First 30 days: quick wins from the report (simple property cleanup, consolidating dashboards). Next 60-90 days: start with the structural redesign according to the proposed roadmap.

Is an audit useful for a small HubSpot (10 users)?

Often yes, especially if you're growing. It's cheaper to do an audit with 10 users than with 40 — complexity grows exponentially with users and pipelines.
